What is a toner & why is it important?

A toner is a product we use that helps us personalise our colours. After a colour service, whether it is highlights, balayage or a tint we can apply to add a variety of tones and colours.

We can do anything from white ash to vibrant red tones. Generally it is always important to always book a toner with a balayage or highlights, because we can not always predict the levels of light with your hair due to previous colours, current condition and depth of your natural hair colour.

The toner will help us stop the colour looking too raw, yellow tones or brassy. It will simply add a gentle blend of your colours. A toner also works as a colour correction, and helps to cancel out any unwanted tones that may appear.

Toners can be used as an in between service refresh. This can give a look of having a fresh colour done, without a huge job like you would normally do. They are used to refresh the tone of highlights or a balayage, and even to add vibrancy into fashion colours.

It can be used as an add-on service with a cut and blow dry, or just blow dry for something fun and short term. Whether that be a pastel colour or a more depth toner to the desired colour you like.

Toners also can be added to blondes for more moisture and shine if your colour is looking dull. It can help refresh what you already have, while blending in new colours if you do so.

In a more technical way, toners can also be used as a balayage effect with an application of a root smudge. Root shadow and fade out into the natural, previous or desired colour.

We do suggest booking in a toner when getting a colour done, especially when you’re going lighter such as foils/highlights!
