Hair Care Tips for Spring & Summer!

by: Kellie

It’s Spring. Flowers are blooming and the sun’s shining again, so it’s time to give your hair the care that it needs after those hard cold winter months. All the wind, cold and snow really can take a toll on your hair. The first thing to do is to add some moisture back in your scalp and hair to help maintain those beautiful locks. The first way you can do this is by coming into the salon for an ‘in salon’ conditioning treatment. The reason these are the best option for your hair is because the in-salon treatments we use are higher concentrated, and we can tailor each treatment to your specific needs. Plus, you will receive a head massage while being able to relax and enjoy the process.

We do know that coming into the salon sometimes isn’t always an option. Life is busy, so we offer some ‘at home’ treatments. These aren’t as specific or strong as out in salon ones, however, they will give you beautiful results. You can use treatments at home once a week or so to protect your hair from it’s everyday elements (Sun, rain, wind), along with the hair tools you use like curling irons or straighteners.

Tip - Always use a heat protecting spray before blow drying, straightening or curling your hair with heat.

Another way to prepare your hair for spring and summer is to always brush your scalp and hair before you wash it. This helps to stimulate blood flow to your scalp and it will promote hair growth. Start at the ends of your hair and work your way up to the scalp, and take the time to carefully brush through your scalp and hair.

Tip - Brushing from the ends up will help reduce breakage.

Summer is a great time to change your hair and make it lighter. Just be aware that this is more damaging for your hair, so you will need to be using the correct products for your hair to maintain its health.

Going to the pool or the beach this spring/summer? A good thing to do is to put conditioner, or a hair mask/treatment in your hair before you go swimming. This will protect your hair from the chlorine in the pool.

In the spring and summer months, your hair is going to become more dry due to the extra heat and humidity. Over washing your hair will strip it from its natural oils that are good for your scalp and ends. Try not to wash your hair everyday, try stretching it to every second to third day. Even longer is better. Trust us, your hair and scalp will love you for it!

Tip - Dry shampoo is a great product to use in between washing to keep your hair looking fresh!
